Obituary

Barbara S. Romeo, of Baldwinsville, NY, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at McHarrie Place (Syracuse Nursing Home) on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 after an illness of several years.

Barbara, the daughter of Robert and Jane Stahl, was born on April 9, 1945 in Detroit Michigan. She graduated from Fairfax High School in 1963 and Empire State College in 1990. In 1967, she married Frank Romeo, who predeceased her in 2007 after almost 40 years of marriage, and later married Marty Brennan in 2009. She and Marty were able to have many happy years together prior to her passing.

Barbara was a beautiful person who loved Jesus and loved others. She was active in the church and the community throughout her life, and always looked for opportunities to help others. Her love for her family was enormous. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother, and nothing made her happier than spending time with her grandchildren.

Barbara had great love for nature and all of God's creation. She enjoyed traveling and saw the beauty in all things, large and small. She and Marty were fortunate to visit 55 National Parks during their time together, as well as many places abroad. She also had tremendous love and passion for animals, even the little ones that darted in front of her on the roads. Throughout her life, she had many 'fur friends' that she loved dearly.

Barbara served others in many ways throughout her life. She volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader and musician at church. While in Michigan, she worked as a nursing home activity director, and she also owned and operated an adult foster care home. She later worked as a paralegal specializing in pro bono work for local families and often represented them in court. She was an active PEO sister and a volunteer for On Point for College. She was incredibly generous with her time and resources and cared greatly for others.

Barbara loved music and the arts. Whether it was in her home, around a campfire or in a church sanctuary, she brought joy to countless people through her singing and piano playing. Later in life she became passionate about the harp and participated in numerous programs in the Syracuse area. She was active in a local spinning guild for several years and spent many hours spinning wool, crocheting, and knitting.

Barbara is survived by her husband Marty; 2 daughters, Sheila (Dwayne) Gordon of Hartsdale, NY and Angela (Craig Carlson) Sulzbach of Victor, NY;  grandchildren Amya Gordon, Lily Gordon, Dwayne Gordon Jr., Dylan Sulzbach, Carina Sulzbach, Holden Sulzbach, Jack Carlson, and Brad Carlson.

We offer our gratitude for the care Barbara received from the nurses and staff at McHarrie Place, Syracuse Home.
