Obituary

Anthony Schiro, 102, of Baldwinsville, NY

Anthony Schiro, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away June 12, 2026, at the age of 102. He was a man of great faith and a devoted member of St. Mary's Parish in Baldwinsville for 68 years, where he served in the Holy Name Society, as an usher, and as a member of the Legion of Mary. He was chosen by Msgr. Daily to be among the parish's first lay Eucharistic Ministers, bringing communion to the homebound, and serving at Mass for many years. He was also a 3rd Degree Knight of Columbus, Council 5082, and taught religious education at St. Mary's.

Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Anthony honorably served in the U.S. Navy before marrying his beloved wife, Teresa, in 1950. After the birth of their first child, the family moved to Michigan, where he earned Bachelor's degrees in electrical engineering and mathematics from the University of Michigan. He went on to build a career at General Electric in Syracuse, New York, and also shared his knowledge as a substitute math and shop teacher in the Baldwinsville School District.

Anthony was a fixture in his neighborhood. He was always in his garage fixing bikes for neighborhood children, building, inventing or tinkering with one project or another. His great-grandchildren still race in the wooden racer he built decades ago. When not in his workshop, he could be found gardening, golfing in the FREGA golf league, or fishing from his rowboat on the Seneca River or Brantingham Lake, a favorite family vacation spot. He was known for his daily walks and bike rides through the village, a habit he kept up until well into his 90's.

The third of seven children, Anthony was predeceased by his wife, Teresa (Costanzo), in 2020; his parents, Maurice and Rosaria Schiro; his sisters, Rose Marchionni, Florence Thomas, and Eleanor Bonfietti; and his brothers, Daniel and Albert.

He is survived by his daughters, Christine (James) Kimak of Baldwinsville, and Carol (Michael Pellegrino) Schiro of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren Stacey (John) Cloutier, Dianne (Steve) Phelan, David Kimak, Matthew (Marie) Kimak, Stephen (Sarah) Kimak, Jeremy (Allison) Pellegrino, Emily (Alex Rand) Pellegrino, and Katherine (John Rhoades) Pellegrino ; nine great-grandchildren, Jessica Cloutier, Charles, Sophia, Jude and Teresa Phelan, Aidan Gillis, and Genevieve, Andrew, and Joshua Kimak; a sister, Virginia Simko; and many nieces and nephews.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to his caregivers of six years - Lydia, Patty, and Sandy - and to the staff at McHarrie Pointe and McHarrie Place.

Calling hours will be held at Falardeau Funeral Home, Baldwinsville, on Friday, June 26 from 4-7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
